Jurassic Car Wash on South Congress Avenue now has two coin-operated dinosaurs in addition to the other dinosaur attracts.
Put 75 cents into the slot and flick the switch to Tyrannosaurus rex and a 300-pound animatronic T. rex 12 feet long and 6 feet tall will roar, bob his hed up and down, move from side to side and flick his tail. Then if you put another 75 cents in the slot and flick the switch, you’ll get to see a similarly sized Styracasurus (similar to a triceratops) roar and bob its head up and down. You have to have quarters to play.
There’s also a Velociraptor hatching its chicks that does not move.
The car wash also has a dinosaur that sometimes squirts at cars as they enter. Timing is everything here, because if it squirted the car in front of you, it might not squirt your car. Enough pressure has to build up for it to squirt. The car wash costs $5 to $10.
There’s also a Pterodactyl on the roof that is supposed to come alive every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but we didn’t see that while we were there and we were there at the 30-minute mark and the hour mark. We also didn’t see the Dilophosaurus that’s also supposed to come alive as well.
But if your kids love dinosaurs and you’re looking for an inexpensive way to thrill them this summer, this might be the ticket.
The car wash is open 24-hours a day and is at 4809 S. Congress Ave.
Of course, as soon as you do get your car washed, it will rain. Took 35 minutes for that to happen Thursday afternoon.
