Dove, the soap brand behind the real beauty ad campaign that addresses the complicated relationship between girls and body image, has a new video celebrating fatherhood.
The language says: What do you call them? The ones who go the extra mile? The ones who make dreams come true? The ones who save the day? Some call them dad. We call them heroes. Because when you care, you’ll always be a hero to someone.
Dove asked its users to send footage of themselves doing dad things. You see a father and son building a roller coaster. You see a dad dancing with his daughter. You see a father pushing his son in a wheelchair up a skate ramp.
It’s all very, very touching. But is that what fatherhood is all about? Isn’t fatherhood about consistency. Being there. Cleaning up the vomit at 3 a.m. Driving the carpool. Helping with the science project or the math homework. Tucking them in at night.
It’s the same as motherhood, right? It’s not those big, fun moments like the beach vacation that makes the father. It’s all those small little moments that let your kids know you have their backs.
