We’ve got a family four-pack to Maker Faire Austin. The annual event is scheduled for May 7-8 at Palmer Events Center. Look for robots, drones, glowing objects, music, science and arts and crafts. There will be a lot of hands-on activities for families as well. If you want to enter our contest to win tickets, email me at nvillalpando@statesman.com with your name, phone number and address where we can send the tickets if you are the winner. Enter by Feb. 12.
Tinkering is an important part of childhood. “When I see kids making and using their hands, they are excited and engaged,” Kami Wilt, director of the Austin Tinkering School and producer of Maker Faire, told us last year. “They have a sense of pride and ownership.”
Being a maker is empowering, she said. “It’s confidence-building. It’s such an amazing way to learn.”
Early bird tickets to Maker Faire went on sale today. They are $14 for adults, $9 for children at austinmakerfaire.com/attend/. The faire is also looking for more makers. The application is online a makerfaireaustin.com.
